He was a traditional Tongan Prince and a self-made Fijian chief. In 1874, Ma'afu went to Fiji in an expedition to Vanua Balavu to investigate the killing of a preacher. ==A Brief History== He was born in Tongatapu, Tonga, in 1816, as the son of Aleamotu'a, Tu'i Kanokupulu In 1840 he married Elenoa Ngataialupe, with whom he had one child, Siale'ataongo, in Nukualofa. Also a Christian, Ma'afu introduced Methodist Christianity to eastern Fiji.
